The Workshop took over the catering contract for FirstBus Aberdeen in August 2006 following increasingly poor quality and reduced usage by the 400 bus drivers the previous provider served.

The Workshop took possession of the contract on a Friday; by the Monday morning the facility had been refurbished and was trading again. The turnover of the facility has since increase by 100% at a reduced client subsidy.

This was achieved by expanding the hot food range and replacing low quality frozen foods with home-cooked meals prepared with fresh, locally sourced produce. The Workshop also installed a convenient shop facility and replaced part time staff with dedicated full time personnel.

In addition, the vending service has been expanded throughout other areas of the business and The Workshop provides First Bus's Head Office with corporate dining services.

When considering to renew our catering  contract I considered both local based and national caterers and on balance decided to award the contract to The Workshop, being an Aberdeen managed and owned company. Direct access to the Managing Director in times of problems is important.
I am pleased to say the contact has gone well and we have had a good response to our needs.
